Australia’s 13-man roster for the T20I series against Pakistan does not include any Test regulars. It does not have a captain, either.
Australia has chosen a 13-member squad for the three T20Is against Pakistan, which will be contested in Brisbane on November 14, Sydney on November 16, and Hobart on November 18.
The roster excludes Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, Travis Head, Steve Smith, and even regular T20I skipper Mitchell Marsh, all of whom are expected to play in the five-match Test series against India, which begins four days after the third T20I. However, the now-fit Xavier Bartlett, Nathan Ellis, and Spencer Johnson are all on the squad.
“This group of players have all represented Australia in T20 cricket, so we look forward to them continuing to enhance their international experience throughout this series.”
remarked George Bailey, chairman of the selectors.
According to a report from ESPNcricinfo, the skipper will be chosen “closer to the series.” Only Smith, Matthew Wade, Marsh, and Head remain active Australian T20I captains to date, and none of them are on the team. They might select Adam Zampa, who is four years younger but tied for fourth on the record of national T20I caps (92), or they might consider a younger applicant with an eye towards the future. Glenn Maxwell, 36, is Australia’s most-capped cricketer in the format with 113 games.
For the same series, however, Pakistan will have a new captain (Mohammad Rizwan) and a new vice-captain (Salman Ali Agha).
